Definition
a subtype of counterpresuppositional contrast in which the sentence simply rejects a component of a prior assertion without offering a replacement. Example: in the exchange John bought apples. No, he didn't buy APPLES, the speaker rejects the assertion of what John bought, but without asserting what John did buy. (Section 11.4.1)
