Definition
an indexical strategy in which certain categories, typically number and gender–class, but not the category of person, are encoded in the index. Example: in Russian molod-aja sosna 'young pine', the suffix -aja on molod- 'young' indexes its referent, also referred to by sosna 'pine', by number and gender–class (Feminine Singular), and case (Nominative).
