Definition
the strategy of construing the affected subject - participant as playing two distinct roles in a reflexive or reciprocal event; hence, it is expressed by two distinct argument phrases in a reflexive construction or a reciprocal construction. Examples: the Sa verb form ir-ben-ir [3du-shoot-3du] 'They shoot them / they shoot themselves / they shoot each other' construes the plural participants as playing distinct roles, and thereby uses the transitive construction ('They shoot them') to express either a reflexive event ('They shoot themselves') or a reciprocal event ('They shoot each other').
