Definition
a semantic relation between two events in which there is only a simple contrast, or a construal of a simple contrast, between the two. Simple contrast is considered the prototype for adversative coordination. Example: Ponapean i laid ah e meir [I fish conj he sleep] 'I fished, but he slept', is an instance of simple contrast.
