the semantic relation between two events where two events temporally coincide or overlap. Example: He sang while she played the banjo is a figure–ground construal of the simultaneous relation in an adverbial clause construction, and He sang and she played the banjo is a complex figure construal of the relation in a coordinate clause construction.
