Definition
the variant of a deranking strategy in which the deranked clauses precede the clause that is expressed like a simple main clause. Example: Japanese ojiisanga yamade hataraite obaasanga miseno bano shita 'The old man worked at the mountain, and the old woman tended the store' is an instance of anterior deranking – the suffix -te on hataraite 'worked' indicates that the anterior predicate is deranked.
