Definition
a construction that expresses the most common or 'favored' (see Section 2.4) combinations of information packaging and semantic content. Example: an old violin is an instance of a prototypical referring construction: it expresses reference to an object, the most common or 'favored' type of referent. (Section 2.2.3)
