Definition
an argument structure construction that conforms to the prototypical parallel ranking of participant role and argument salience. Example: I ate the smoked salmon is an instance of a basic voice construction – semantically, I act upon the salmon, and I am more salient than the salmon in the discourse. Basic voice constructions are also called 'active' or 'direct' constructions. (Sections 6.1.1, 8.1)
